STU Bachelor’s Degrees

Minimum Admission Requirements

To be admitted into an STU undergraduate program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Educational Background:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent
    • If the credential was earned outside the U.S., the applicant must provide proof of secondary school completion that qualifies for university admission in their home country.
  2. English Language Proficiency:

Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency.

General Degree Completion Requirements

To be awarded a Bachelor’s Degree, students must:

  1. Earn a minimum of 120 credit hours, divided as follows:

A.1    General Education Requirements (GER): 30 credit hours

Students must complete at least 30 credit hours in General Education, covering foundational areas essential to a well-rounded liberal arts education. Emphasis is placed on building skills in written and oral communication, and course selection must include the following categories:

  • Humanities and Fine Arts
  • Business, Social, and Behavioral Sciences
  • Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Computer Science
  • Global Perspectives and Diversity – Courses focus on international topics and issues of race, ethnicity, and gender (designated as G in the catalog)
  • Writing Intensive – Courses that emphasize writing across disciplines (designated as W in the catalog)

Each course may satisfy only one General Education Requirement. Eligible courses are marked GER in the Course Code and Descriptions section.

A.2    Core Curriculum, Major Requirements, and General Electives: 90 credit hours

Each degree program includes a core curriculum and a set of major-specific courses designed to build depth and expertise in the chosen field of study. These requirements vary by program and are outlined in the respective degree descriptions. In addition to core and major courses, students are required to complete general electives. These electives support interdisciplinary learning and allow students to explore complementary interests or career-enhancing skills.

A.3    Of the total 120 credit hours, at least 45 must be upper-division credits (course numbers 300–400)

  1. Complete at least 30% of their coursework at St. Thomas University
  2. Fulfill all major and core curriculum requirements for their chosen program
  3. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
